Refrigerators are inevitable in this modern world to keep our food and other eatables, fresh for much longer time. Exotic food stuffs imported from other countries can be stored for future use and also prevent the food stuffs from reeking. Moving a fridge freezer isn’t very simple as we think, because the cooling paraphernalia inside the fridge is too fragile. It should be handled with immense care while moving it from one place to the other place.

Step
1Never start your work all at once. Plan ahead before your work commences as it is one of the intricate electrical appliance to shift from one location to other. So planning the process helps to remove stress out of the move.

Step
2Food Stuffs
Device a schedule to use up the stored food. Leaving the food stuffs inside the freezer is an extra burden while moving. Frozen food will decompose fast creating bad odour which will ruin the freezer. Plan accordingly to run down all the eatables left in the freezer and throw away the unwanted food items else it is going to get spoiled anyway. Remove all the items from the freezer fridge since it should be empty prior to shifting.

Step
3Defrosting
Defrosting the freezer is essential before transportation as it can cause condensation and melting problems during the move which could ruin the freezer. We prefer to defrost the freezer two days before the move. If you fail to defrost, it starts cooling when unhooked and dump huge puddle of water all over the floor.

4Essential Equipments
Equipments required for moving a refrigerator includes moving dolly, bungee cords or ropes, light weight blankets, soft cloth or towel, used carpets, markers or labels and cleaning solution like detergents. Get these things in hand before getting into the work. While it appears to be simple task, any minor mistakes leads to permanent damage to the refrigerator. Read your User’s manual prior to moving. Keep in mind about the DO’s and DON’T’s mentioned in the User’s manual.

Step
5Remove The Trays And Shelves
Switch off the power source and wrap the cord. Take all the trays, shelves and other movable and removable parts out of the freezer fridge as it could cause damage to the freezer during transportation. No loose parts should be there in the fridge at the time of shifting. Now clean all the trays with cloth rinsed in cleaning solution or detergent and keep it safe separately. Take care of the glass objects to prevent them from breakage. Label the trays and shelves which to fix them at the appropriate places after shifting. Once it is done, clean the freezer thoroughly with towels and leave the freezer door unclosed for a day to dry up.

Step
6Moving Out
Never try to move the fridge all alone as it may result in injuring you and damaging the freezer. The first point to be kept in mind while moving the fridge is that it should be rested in the upright position which is the usual standing position. Never rest your fridge on its side back since it could break the interior machinery and spoil the exterior also. It might also cause leakage in this position. Avoid exerting too much pressure in order to prevent fridge from dropping it down.

Step
7Prior to moving, remove the handles with might cause damage to other objects in course of the work. Infer stability to the freezer by filling it with light weight blankets. Wrap the blanket or soft cloth around the outside of the freezer in order to cease the door from opening with prevents the interior and exterior of the appliance from damaging. Use bungee cords or ropes to fasten the freezer and fridge door to avoid the disturbance created by open door. Never use tapes to fasten as it may spoil the paint surface and finish.
-
Step
8If your floor is tiled, tilt the appliance backward and slide a carpet piece under the feet to safe guard the floor from scratches. Better to use moving dollies on any type of floor. To move down a flight of stairs, move the bottom first. You can use moving straps to tie fridge and the dolly together to have a better control while moving on the stairs. Incase vehicles are used for transportation, needs extra person to place in the vehicle. Rest it in such a position that it doesn’t get damaged or drops down during the transit.

Step
9Moving In
At its destination, give a break for few hours before plugging the freezer. At the time of transit fluid from the compressor would have moved to the cooling lines. This break induces the fluid to flow back to the compressor, draining completely from the cooling lines. When switched on immediately, the freezer may not work. If possible 24 hours break period would be sufficient for draining the fluids.
